Siemens Sinamics G120 Fault F0001 (Overcurrent) – Troubleshooting & Solution
Is your Siemens VFD showing Fault F0001? Don’t Panic.
If you are a maintenance engineer, seeing the F0001 fault code on your Siemens Sinamics G120 or Micromaster 440 drive can be a nightmare. It means “Overcurrent” โ the drive is detecting more current than allowed, and it has tripped to protect itself.
Here is a quick guide to troubleshooting and fixing this issue.
What Causes Fault F0001?
- Motor Issues: Short circuit in the motor winding or ground fault.
- Cable Issues: The cable connecting the VFD to the motor is damaged or too long.
- Mechanical Load: The motor is trying to pull a load that is too heavy (jammed conveyor, stuck pump).
- VFD Failure: The power card or IGBT inside the VFD is damaged.
Step-by-Step Solution:
Step 1: Check the Motor & Cable
- Disconnect the motor cable from the VFD.
- Check the motor insulation resistance (Megger test).
- Check for any cuts or burns in the cable.
Step 2: Check the Load
- Rotate the motor shaft manually. Is it stuck?
- Check if the gearbox or machine is jammed.
Step 3: Check the VFD (Important)
- Run the VFD without the motor connected.
- If the F0001 fault still appears even with no motor, then your VFD Hardware (IGBT) is damaged.
โ ๏ธ Is Your VFD Damaged? Do Not Wait!
Repairing an old VFD can take weeks and often fails again. The best solution is to replace it immediately to minimize production downtime.
